On Sunday, 15th March, Floriana will celebrate the feast of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. The connection between the Irish saint and the suburb of Floriana is an old one, dating back to when a small statue in his honour stood at Balzunetta. There is also the connection with the football club, whose colours – green and white – had originated from the swapping of football kits during a friendly game between the Floriana F.C. and the Royal Dublin Fusiliers Regiment football team. The celebrations will take place in Balzunetta, where the first St. Patrick’s was celebrated in Floriana, in Conservatory Street.
